Veteran Hiring Preference
The State of Wisconsin values veterans and recognizes their contributions to our country. To support their transition into the workforce, Wisconsin offers the Veterans Non-Competitive Appointment Program for qualified veterans with a 30% or greater service-connected disability rating.
How the Program Works
Veterans who qualify can apply for state employment without competing through the traditional hiring process. Instead, their qualifications and experience are reviewed and matched to job openings across various state agencies. Veterans submit a resume and required documentation, and as vacancies arise, hiring officials may consider them for positions that match their skills.
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for the Veterans Non-Competitive Appointment Program, applicants must:
- Be a 30% disabled veteran, meaning they:
- Are listed on a U.S. Armed Forces permanent disability list with at least a 30% disability rating, OR
- Have a compensable service-connected disability of at least 30%, as determined by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
- Provide written documentation from the VA or other federal military authority verifying their disability rating, dated within the past 12 months.
- Not hold a permanent state government position or have mandatory restoration rights to one.
